Curbar Edge Part 2 (January 2020)

This second post from Curbar Edge focuses on the gritstone rocks above the edge. The results provide another example of the ‘surfaces and textures’ photography I have been doing at the start of this year.

Gritstone is not the most colourful rock to photograph although it does tend to reflect the warmth of the sunlight. Most of the interest comes from the textured surface particularly where the sediments are compressed into ‘pancake’ layers.

On a sunny day another source of interest is the shapes created by the light and shade either from the naturally eroded rocks that form the edge or from the abandoned millstone quarrying that was once a major industry in this part of the Peak District:
