August on the Southwell Trail - Part 3

This selection from the Southwell Trail concludes the August photography. It is a round-up of different aspect of the trail that caught my eye during the month starting with various tree fruits and berries.

Blackthorn fruit known as sloes:

Damson fruit:

Hawthorn berries often called haws:

Rowan tree berries:

Horse chestnut husks containing conker seeds:

Apple tree with the leaves starting to colour and fall on the ferns below:

I have been keeping my eye on the hornbeam trees thought the year. These are some of the leaves catching the morning light and then towards the end of the month some colour starting to appear as the leaves turn to autumn and the seeds, known as samaras, begin to dry out:

These are flowering yarrow plants:

Some early signs of autumn arriving:

Lastly, a small series of horizontal lines or bands in the landscape made from crops and hedges. I am interested in this as a wider theme for photography with a band being defined as a stripe, line or elongated area of different colour, texture, or composition from its surroundings:

Trent Weir (August 2019)

There was a small heat wave at the end of August and we enjoyed the sunny conditions by walking along the River Trent. At Hazelford Lock I spotted the following reflections on the lip of the weir and set about building a panel of related images. I really like some of the colours particularly where there is a golden glow from the stones under the surface:

Giving an indication of how warm it was on the day are these images of cows taking an opportunity to cool in the Trent!

August on the Southwell Trail - Part 2

This selection of photographs from the Southwell Trail reflects the weather conditions we experienced during August, including some heavy rain falls and some fine sunny days.

I got caught out by this storm whilst out walking and with nowhere to shelter I was absolutely drenched....

On a more sunny day I captured these wispy clouds including a faint half moon:

Finally, some more conventional landscapes that reflect the conditions on the trail during August:
