I have also been watching three large ash trees along the trail during the month. They are great to photograph and, in a similar manner to the horse chestnuts, the sunshine plays a big role in highlighting the changing colours:

September on the Southwell Trail - Part 3
Most of the month I have been on autumn watch and the first trees to show any colour change were the horse chestnuts. The leaves seem to dry very quickly displaying a wonderful auburn colour in the sunlight:
