I would normally expect October to busy a month
for photography along the Southwell Trail but this year it has been greatly
reduced by the weather. When there were sunny days during the month I tended to
prioritise the forest areas for autumn colours rather than the trail.
The exception to this was a few days that
started fine and then quickly turned to rain. On these occasions I was happy to
keep the photography local and I mainly concentrated on a group of mature ash trees along the trail. They are really fine trees and during October they reached their peak autumnal colour. These are some of the results starting with mid October when there was still some green leaves on the trees:
Ten days later the leaves had changed to a vibrant yellow:
And finally in the last days of October the fall had started in earnest with some of the branches looking quite bare:
