Boat Sheds on Lindisfarne (February 2014)

With the early morning sunlight fading behind dark clouds on Holy Island in 2014, I turned my attention away from the landscapes to close-up studies of the iconic boats sheds that stand on the shoreline near to the priory. 

The original boat sheds have an interesting history from the design by Sir Edwin Lutyen in the early 1900’s, to arson in the 2000’s, preservation by the National Trust, and the inspiration for roof of the Tower Buildings of the Scottish Parliament - see the links below for more detail. 

From a photographic point of view the boat sheds are a visual jungle of textures, patterns, shapes and colours which I tackled in a series of square format compositions. I am not clear that I thought much of the results in 2014 as all but a few were left unprocessed at the time - something that has become a consistent feature of this lockdown reprocessing exercise that fresh eyes can now better appreciate:
