With the virus restrictions easing, I ventured out for the first forest photography of the year. The complexity of the woodland scenes were somewhat overwhelming as I tried to line up some compositions. Fortunately, some strong sunlight under dark clouds combined to kick start the process, drawing out some of the early spring colours:
Surprisingly, the dark clouds then turned to snow, which is very unusual in April. It lasted for about 30 minutes settling for a while on a cleared edge of the wood:
Another surprise quickly followed. As result of frequent visits (virus restriction aside) to the various woodlands that make up the greater Sherwood Forest, I get to recognise individual trees which I often photograph. It was therefore a shame to see that one of these, a fine beech tree, had been cut down over the winter...
Once I had completed a lap around the wood the snow clouds had moved on and the sun was back:
