The Desert - Part 1 (September 2019)

The following set of photographs was taken in a place known locally as the 'desert':



As I understand it, the desert is actually a mineral works which includes the disposal of coal and the quarrying of sand. At one time it would have been part of the Rufford Colliery site, most of which has now been reclaimed as a nature reserve.

I have taken photographs in this location in past and they have featured briefly in previous posts, but on this occasion I was attracted to the piles of red/orange aggregate set against the more neutral toned coal deposits and a vivid blue reflection in a pool. I am not sure if this arrangement is part of the storage and distribution of the materials or whether this is a further regeneration of this location. Either way, I think the results are unusual, but visually appealing, and provides another example of how photography can be made from the strangest of subjects:
