Foxcovert Nature Reserve (October 2019)

One of the great joys of the autumn season photography is sunlight in the tops of the trees. It produces a wonderful golden glow particularly when set against clear blue skies. The method is very simple, it only requires looking upwards with the camera and using the trunks and branches of the trees as compositional aids to capture the colours.

Of course, the danger, apart from tripping up whilst walking and looking upwards, is taking too many of a similar style of image but I often feel that this type of photography is less about the outcomes and more about the overall photographic experience. I guess without the photography the opportunity to take time and look high into the tree tops are few!

The following set of photographs includes some early season examples of tree top photography taken in the local Foxcovert Nature Reserve. In the coming weeks there will be more of this style of image as the autumn colours start to reach their peak:
