Sandstone Abstracts (March 2019)

Church cemetery in Nottingham gets its alternative name 'Rock cemetery' due to its sandstone rock faces particularly in the lower part of cemetery. It is one of my favourite rock surfaces to photography due to the wonderful textures and colours. Here I concentrated mainly on the rich yellows highlighted by the afternoon sunlight. The relative softness of the rock meant that most of the surface had been marked with names and messages:












Continuing the theme, I visited the Chinese Bell Tower in the Nottingham Arboretum which sits on a platform of inscribed pink sandstone. These were some of the results:
