Sherwood Forest (January 2019)

As I mentioned in a recent post, it takes a bit of time to adjust to photographing bare winter trees after vibrant colours of autumn. The lack of obvious colour in winter changes the compositions more towards the structure of the trees including the lines and shapes created by the branches. These are some examples taken in Sherwood Forest, my first winter visit to this location:




One of best sources for colour in the forest at this time of year is the ancient oak trees. Close up there are an array of textures and tones making it an engaging subject to photograph. These are some of the results:
