Dawn to Dusk (February 2020)

The day that started with dawn photography at Burnham-on-Sea ended with sunset images at Clevedon Pill - see my previous posts, starting with Burnham Lighthouse - Part 1.

It had been a few years since I had covered both ends of a day with photography and I thoroughly enjoyed it, apart from the getting up bit! At one time, 90% plus of my photography would have been taken in the golden hours but more recently I moved away from the ‘classic’ landscape composition and find myself looking for more abstract subjects or simply enjoying the light regardless of the time of day.

This final selection reflects that change. It starts with a set of abstract style images focusing mainly on the mud banks at Clevedon Pill and then a few landscapes which capture the golden light at the end of the afternoon:

This channel is called the Blind Yeo which drains into the Severn. It is a man-made river constructed in 1949 to alleviate flooding in the Kenn Valley:

These are the final shots of the day. The first is a wider angle view of the Clevedon Pill inlet and Wain's Hill in golden light, followed by a few views of the afterglow, looking across the mouth of the Severn to Wales:

Colours and Textures (February 2020)

On the path leading to the inlet at Clevedon Pill were a number of boats on supporting blocks, presumably for maintenance and repair...or perhaps seasonally storage. Either way, the colours and textures of the hulls provided a good photographic opportunity. The results, shown below, are presented in an abstract, close up format, and adds to a growing collection of surface and texture images at the start of 2020:

The photography didn't end with the dawn visit to Burnham Lighthouse - see my previous posts - and I was out again for the sunset at Clevedon Pill.

Clevedon Pill is a small inlet where the Blind Yeo and the Land Yeo drain into Severn Estuary. Despite being small there was plenty to photograph including, boats in the estuary, salt marsh, landscapes across the channel, and reflections in the very clam river.

This first selection concentrates on the small boats in the creek where the Land Yeo snakes its way to the Severn. The twists and turns provided a number of different angles to capture the crafts and their reflections in the half tide:
