Strawberry Hill Heath (October 2022)

An early autumn visit to Strawberry Hill Heath provided hints of colour, mainly from the birch and red oak trees. A surprising find, however, was a tree at the peak of its season, displaying a full crown of rich yellow leaves.

A conversation with a passer-by led to a discussion about what the type of tree it was - his view being a beech, but I was unsure. Other beech trees in the location were not as far along in their colour and the yellow seemed unusual. Looking at the bark and the shape of the leaves I was more inclined to go with a hornbeam tree. Either way, it was a pleasure to photograph although a little awkward as the path was very narrow.
