Trent Reflections (April 2021)

This selection of photographs follows on from my previous post and features reflections in the River Trent.

As I look for landscape opportunities, I will invariably see the movement of the water. Sometimes this is forced by a passing boat and other times it is governed by the strength and direction of the wind. Very occasionally the river is still, creating mirror-like reflections. Either way it is an engaging subject, easy to photograph and ever changing.

These were some of the results from the various walks during April:

River Trent (April 2021)

I continued the walks along the River Trent at Fiskerton during April capturing the emerging spring season. This location is fast becoming a favourite area for walking and it appeals to the type of photography that I really enjoy.

There are two directions to walk from the car park at Fiskerton: one in the direction of Hazelford Lock and the other towards Farndon. From a photographic point of view both walks have a similar outlook - the river, the river bank, trees, and agricultural fields. Staythorpe Power Station comes into view on the Farndon stretch which adds variety, as does the weir at Hazelford Lock, but there is no clear and obvious starting point or go to compositions for the photography. These have to be developed over time in different conditions…hence the challenge and the enjoyment of the location.

These were some of the results from several trips during the month - as mixture from walks in both directions:

Robin Hood Hill (April 2021)

The fine evening light prompted a walk up to Robin Hood Hill. It had been a while since I had last visited this location and with some oilseed yellows in the fields it was an opportunity to capture the developing spring season.

The photographs that I liked the most were taken right at the end of the walk near to Greaves Lane. The sun was about to set with the last rays of the day warming the oilseed crop and oak trees:

An alternative take on the oilseed crop was provided by streaks of yellow flowers angling across the fields below Robin Hood Hill:

The footpath after Robin Hood Hill makes its way down to Oxton Village with a return loop on a concessionary route. This is a pleasant walk through the lower part of the Oxton Estate and I particularly enjoyed a last opportunity to capture the leafless trees before the green cloak descended for the summer months.:
