I had broadly forgotten about this selection of photographs from the Watchwood Plantation taken in May. As I have stated a few times in recent posts I am behind on my processing and therefore some of the outings with the camera have faded into the past - the memory is not what it used to be!
This visit to Watchwood, near Calverton, is one that seems an age ago but has a few images that I like. I can see that I was trying to counteract the dullish conditions by picking out some of the spring colours and flowers from the wood. These were some of the results:

Autumn in Spring (April 2018)
If I presented this selection from Foxcovert Nature Reserve during late autumn, I don't think anyone would think anyone would argue about the season or believe they were taken in spring. It was foggy, cold and dank, with dried orange leaves on some of the trees adding to the impression of autumn in springtime - great for woodland photography though:
This next set concentrates on the leafless tree branches and I particularly like the first image:
There was just a hint of spring as some leaf buds start to show plus a view of Gravelly Hollow, the dead end road which runs alongside Foxcovert Nature Reserve:

Foxcovert Nature Reserve - Photography Week 48 (2016)
Foxcovert Nature Reserve and plantation was purchased in 1996 by Nottinghamshire's wildlife trust it is thought to have been once part of the ancient Sherwood Forest (1). Today it sits in between the main A614 and site of the old Calverton colliery (2) and is accessed by the closed off Gravelly Hollow road.
Being in a hollow the winter sunlight only touches the top of the trees whilst frosty conditions persists at ground level:
