Nottingham Contemporary - Photography Week 13 (2016)

Nottingham Contemporary is a one of UK's largest contemporary arts centres (1,2). Most of the building is clad in scalloped panels embossed with a lace pattern which is in keeping with its position in Nottingham's lace market area. The upper level has golden coloured panels which shine in the direct light and on a clear day the contrast with a blue sky is striking:













Currently showing in the galleries is Simon Sterling's Grand Tour (3). I had a bit of time to look at the glass ball installation and then the stainless steel sculptures. As a keen photographer I was immediate drawn to the light reflecting from the two pieces of art and in particular the contrast between them - the uniformity and predictability from the glass balls and the irregular bending of the light from the sculptures. Checking that photographs were allowed, I tried to represent this in a series of images:
