Godrevy Lighthouse - Photography Week 2 (2016)

Back in January (2016) I made another visit to the beach at Gwithian in search of a decent photograph of Godrevy lighthouse and yet again I found the conditions very different from the previous occasions.

Normally, when processing my images, my first instinct is to brighten the compositions. This can be done by setting the white and black points and shifting the mid tones towards the right of the histogram (1). On this occasion shifting the mid tones to the darker left and concentrating the brightness on the lighthouse seemed to produce the most dramatic results.

In addition, I took a couple of shots into the light capturing a passing shower:

(1) a histogram is a graphical representation of each pixel in the image according to its value on the scale of 0 for black and 255 for white. A shift to the right increases the value of the pixels in the image towards white giving an overall brighter appearance.
